PANTHERS RUN WILD IN VICTORY
The Saint Jo Panthers amassed 336 yards rushing this past Friday night, as they defeated the Northside Indians 72-26 in sixman action. The Panthers forced six turnovers as they stifled the Indians offense.
The Panthers opened the game with a turnover of their own, fumbling the opening snap. The defense did its job though, holding the Indians on fourth down to get the ball back. Laramie Brawner wasted no time getting the Panthers on the board, as he ran for a 36 yard touchdown on the 3rd play of the drive. Brawner would continue his domination of the Indians as he ran for 230 yards and 7 touchdowns on the night. Brawner also connected with Wyatt West for a 30 yard touchdown pass just before the half. Anthony Gutierrez scored on a 21-yard jaunt in the first quarter as the Panthers raced to a 58-26 lead at halftime.
The Panther defense and special teams were outstanding as well. Daimeon Lawler booted 5 extra points, but was especially effective onside kicking, leading to three recoveries for the Panthers. Brawner and Baltazar Lozano led the team with 8 stops each on the night. Garrett Parker and Wyatt West both intercepted Northside passes. Anthony Gutierrez pounced on an Indian fumble in their own endzone to score a touchdown for the defense.
Saint Jo is off this week as they prepare for the remainder of their regular season games. The team will travel to Forestburg on Oct 3rd for a rivalry game. Kickoff will be at 7:30.
