PANTHERS DEFEAT LIONS
Weather was a factor in many games this past Friday night, cancelling some games while delaying others. Saint Jo and Denton Calvary were proactive in their game, utilizing a running clock in the second half to beat the weather. The Panthers built a 13-point halftime lead and held on for a wild 50-44 victory over the Lions as possessions were limited in the second half due to the running clock.
Laramie Brawner scored on the first play of the game and led the offense once again, rushing for 121 yards and 2 touchdowns. Garrett Parker and Wyatt West hooked up on three passes for a total of 116 yards and a touchdown. Baltazar Lozano and Anthony Gutierrez punched in short touchdowns on the ground as well. Special teams were big for the Panthers, as Parker and Brawner both returned kickoffs for scores. Lozano spearheaded the defense with 11 tackles, while Daimeon Lawler chipped in 8. West picked off a Calvary pass to end the first half.
The victory moves the Panthers to 4-2 on the season, with one more game before the district slate begins. Saint Jo will host Savoy this Friday night at Harley Sewell Field. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
