Saint Jo High School Ag Science Receives $15,000 Grant
The Saint Jo Ag Science Department was blessed to be awarded a grant this summer from a generous local ranching family. Thank you to teacher Kristal Nobile, community member Donna Howell-Sickles, and the Saint Jo Education Foundation for their combined efforts in the application and receipt of the grant in the amount of $15,000.
Over the summer the supplies were ordered and have recently all been delivered to school. The supplies purchased included:
Greenlee Pipe Bender and table
60 gallon, upright, air compressor
4 ½” angle grinder
Scroll Saw
Table Saw
Circular Saw
Miller 252 Wire Welder with spool gun (capable of steel and aluminum)
Hypertherm Plasma Cutter
Cutting Torch and hose
Floor Drill Press
Ag science teacher Brad Bland is excited to get the equipment in and train the students on their use, as the shop is filling up with individual and class projects. Access to the newly acquired equipment in the SJHS shop will be invaluable as students learn how to operate them, and put them to use on their ag mechanic projects. General uses for the equipment include bending tubing, which can be for building gates, handrails, roof bows, etc., cutting of thin metals, woodworking, both small and large, including detail work, and precision drilling.
Prior to the grant, many tasks had to be completed in area shops as the equipment was not locally available. Some of the projects scheduled to be completed this year in the ag shop with the new equipment include a stock trailer, display signs, benches, and detailed woodworking.
