Concerns Regarding A-F Rating
The new A-F rating system released by the Texas Education Agency is obviously flawed and in need of tremendous revisions. I believe in strong accountability, but see no evidence that the A-F grading system will actually improve performance or help students. Unfortunately, the A-F system, ranks schools within each domain to allow for comparison of schools/districts. Saint Jo ISD was rated with two B's and two A's in this new system. Currently, administrators and teachers do not know what constitutes an A performance from year to year. It is my understanding the Commissioner of Education plans to set the standard for each of the letter grades, A-F, after the STAAR/EOC exams are tabulated each year. This will undoubtedly create a moving target, causing undo stress and instability in our classrooms and the entire school district.
I do not believe a rating system of this nature will improve student performance. Saint Jo ISD will remain steadfast in working toward improving our performance regardless of a rating. We are an exceptional school with a safe, positive and enthusiastic approach to learning.
